Want XP tips and tricks to make your computer faster? This article will guide you how to tweak Windows XP to improve computer performance and make it run faster. Now let me give you some tips and tricks.
1. Speed Up Windows XP Startup.
We can easily speed up your computer startup by just editing a registry key. Just follow the steps below.
1) Open Registry Editor.
Click "Start" and "Run", type in "regedit" and click "OK" to open Registry Editor.
2) Open the submenus:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[SYSTEM]-->[Current Control Set]-->[Control]-->[Session Manager]-->[Memory Management]-->[Prefetch Parameters].
3) Find [Enable Prefetcher] and double click the key. Then modify the default value 3 to 1.
2. Disable Useless DLL Files.
Some useless dll files can hinder the startup speed and makes computer slow. So we need to disable them to save system resources and improve the overall performance. Follow the steps below.
1) Open Registry Editor.
2) Open the submenus:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]-->[SOFTWARE]-->[Microsoft]-->[Windows]-->[CurrentVersion]-->[Explorer].
3) Find string value [AlwaysUnloadDLL] and double click it. Then modify the default value 1 to 0. If the string value does not exist, right click [Explorer] and select New, then select String Value. You will see a new item on the right window, then name it as [AlwaysUnloadDLL] and set the value as 0.
0 means useless dll files are disabled.
Then restart your computer. After you do this will make the Windows XP startup faster by several seconds and run quicker. But there are thousands of registry keys in the windows XP. To improve the overall performance, you need to optimize the whole registry. You need to use a registry optimizer to help you to tweak your PC.
